Borussia Dortmund vs Atletico Madrid – LIVE!

Borussia Dortmund have work to do if they want to beat Atletico Madrid and reach the semi-finals of the Champions League for the first time in more than a decade. The Bundesliga were 2-1 down on aggregate after a first-leg defeat in Spain, with goals from Rodrigo De Paul and Samuel Lino putting Atletico in charge before Sebastien Haller halved the deficit late on.

Dortmund are fifth in the Bundesliga and their place in the Champions League next season is under pressure. Home advantage will be crucial tonight; they are unbeaten in their four European matches at Signal Iduna Park this season. Haller will not be involved for the hosts after an ankle injury, while Jadon Sancho is battling illness.

Atletico come into this match on the back of a 3-1 win over Girona on Saturday, moving Diego Simeone’s side within four points of third place in La Liga. Although they were regulars in the knockout stages of the Champions League, it has been seven years since they last reached the last four. Whoever comes out on top tonight will face Barcelona or PSG in the semi-finals. Follow all the action with Standard Sport’s LIVE blog below!

Dortmund’s impressive European form

Borussia Dortmund’s defeat to Atletico last Wednesday was their first in the Champions League since the opening day defeat to PSG.

They topped the ‘Group of Death’ and picked up eleven points against PSG, AC Milan and Newcastle before eliminating PSV in the round of 16.

They have not been able to match their fine European form at home.

They are currently fifth in the Bundesliga. However, that could be enough to qualify for next year’s Champions League, with England and Germany battling it out for an additional spot in the expanded 36-team tournament.

Sebastien Haller lasted just ten minutes against Borussia Mönchengladbach before aggravating a left ankle injury and could be out for the rest of the season.
