Delays on the M25 near Heathrow Airport are easing as the road reopens following a fatal accident

A man in his 70s has died after a van and lorry crashed on the M25 near Heathrow Airport, MET police have confirmed.

Police and ambulance crews rushed to the scene of the accident on the M25 clockwise at junction 14 at around 9.35am.

Paramedics performed CPR on the van driver, a man believed to be in his 70s, but he died at the scene, the Met confirmed on Monday afternoon.

The M25 was completely closed clockwise for around four hours after the crash and a diversion was put in place, with traffic backed up for around five miles.

Two lanes reopened around 1:40 p.m. and the road was fully open around 3:15 p.m.

The driver of the truck did not sustain serious injuries in the crash, police said. No arrests have been made.

Witnesses or those with dashcam footage are asked to call 101 or tweet @MetCC quoting CAD 2484/18MAR.

A spokesperson said Standard traffic is being diverted at Junction 14 of the M25 before joining the roundabout and then rejoining the M25 at the on-ramp.

No major disruption on reopened M25

The M25 in Surrey has reopened eight hours ahead of schedule following the first planned daytime closure of the motorway.

A five-mile stretch between junctions 10 and 11 was closed in both directions at 9pm on Friday and was due to open around 6am on Monday.

However, following work to demolish a bridge and install a large portal, the bridge reopened just after 10pm on Sunday.

The National Highways South-East (NHSE) said on X, formerly Twitter: “We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone for your patience and following our travel advice.”

No major disruptions were reported on the highway on the first morning after the work.
