09:49 , Jamie Braidwood

Carlos Alcaraz believes his French Open campaign is going from strength to strength after powering past Felix Auger-Aliassime to reach the quarter-finals, where he will play Stefanos Tsitsipas tomorrow.

Alcaraz faced questions about his form and fitness after arriving at Roland Garros with a right forearm injury, but defeated Auger-Aliassime 6-3 6-3 6-1.

“I think I played tennis at a high level. Really focused. No ups and downs. I’m happy with everything. My serve, my shots, my movements on the court,” he said.

“I think the most important thing is that I believe in myself. It doesn’t matter if I don’t have too many matches on my back or if I didn’t come with much rhythm.

“I just believe in myself with my team. We did a really good job every day before we came here, and every day here. After every training and every match I got better and better.

“Here on Court Philippe Chatrier it is easy to play… given the history of this court and this tournament it is better to play and get 100%.”

9:40 am , Jamie Braidwood

Iga Swiatek ate a double bagel for breakfast in Paris and defeated Anastasia Potapova 6-0, 6-0 to reach the quarterfinals of the French Open. writes Andy Sims.

Swiatek did her part as it took her just forty minutes, one of the shortest matches in Roland Garros history, to beat the Russian.

She hit just two unforced errors to Potapova’s 19 and won 94 percent of the points on her first serve. Of the 58 points played in the match, the 23-year-old Potapova won only 10.

“I was just really focused, in the zone and not really looking at the score, and yeah, it went pretty fast, kind of weird,” Swiatek said.

“Because we played with the open top very early, it’s always a little different, but it’s still not too hot. It doesn’t feel like summer in Europe, but we’ll see what it will be like in two days.”

Second seed Jannik Sinner shook off a slow start to shine in the quarter-finals of the French Open last night with a 2-6 6-3 6-2 6-1 victory over local hope Corentin Moutet, who fulfilled his dreams as number one kept the world alive.

Australian Open champion Sinner was in trouble in front of partisan fans on Court Philippe Chatrier as the 22-year-old found himself 5-0 behind after 23 minutes, but he managed to get on the board and avoid an embarrassing match. bagel.

“It was very hard for me. I think he played very well in the first set,” Sinner said.

“I had some chances, but he played much better than me, so I had to adapt a bit. He had a great run here at Roland Garros. The atmosphere was great as always.

“He plays differently than most of my opponents, so it was difficult for me. He’s also left-wing. You don’t play against left-handers that often, so I’m happy to be in the next round.”

Novak Djokovic diplomatic about late matches as Coco Gauff calls them ‘not healthy’

09:25 , Jamie Braidwood

Novak Djokovic admitted his late finish at the French Open “could have been different”, while Coco Gauff called playing into the early hours “not healthy”.

“I don’t want to comment on it,” said the defending champion. “I have my opinions, but I think there are great things to talk about as we talk about this match and both Lorenzo’s performance and mine stand out.

“I don’t want to talk about the schedule. I think some things could have been handled differently. But there is also something beautiful: winning the match at 3:30, even though it is the last of the tournament.

“But it’s not like I have to turn on all my young genes and try to recover as quickly as possible.”
