What was once a simple family hotel on the side of the road to Santa Eularia has been stylishly converted into a boutique hotel with lots of charm and even more personality. The best part? The spectacularly charismatic hosts. Staying here feels a bit like visiting some of your oldest, dearest friends. After buying the hotel and moving to Ibiza from Vienna (although they both still travel to Austria for work), they set out to bring character and a bit of spark back to the finca. Woven Moroccan baskets on cast iron planks and massive sunbeds with pink marble-print covers line the pool, and there are plants everywhere. The grounds are also worth exploring: there are nooks and crannies everywhere, including a small Japanese-inspired pond and garden.

Ca Na The T-shaped seawater pool is the centerpiece of the hotel, which started out as just six rooms in the main building (now there are twenty), built in the style of a Spanish finca. Also special is the partially open-air restaurant with glass walls, where dishes such as langoustine with mango chutney, Josper-cooked marinated chicken in Ibiza style and tuna tartare with mango and avocado are pricey but delicious. There is plenty of space around the pool and spa for lounging.

• The best hotels in Ibiza Town

This sleek hotel exudes a sense of understated cool and pays tribute to the elegance of minimalist style. Clean lines and neutral colors characterize the décor, while the outdoor pool and spa come as close to outdoor perfection as possible. Acclaimed interior designer Joan Lao was responsible for transforming the 1970s space into a showcase of modern design. Each of the seven rooms is decorated differently, although the soft interior in varying shades of soothing grey, white and fawn is present throughout – as is the inescapable comfort of the king-size beds, all of which are adorned with 100 percent Ibicenco cotton. There is a restaurant with a compact but spicy menu; expect excellent service from cheerful and attentive staff.

• The best hotels in Formentera

Located in San Carlos – one of Ibiza’s most bohemian villages with an atmosphere rooted in the 1960s – the hotel’s rural location means it is surrounded by an abundance of sensational flora. The original finca of Can Curreu is over 200 years old and great emphasis has been placed on preserving the authentic, rustic style of the hotel, which has been expanded over the years. Each suite has modern features but is steeped in traditional charm. The surrounding gardens are intoxicating and the pool has plenty of sunbeds and stunning views over the green valley below. The on-site stables allow novice riders to explore the surrounding fields on horseback, which is certainly as idyllic as it gets.

• Where to stay in the Canary Islands

Near the village of Santa Gertrudis, a favorite among artists, the romantic Cas Gasi was originally built towards the end of the 19th century. The farmhouse and adjoining buildings have been lovingly restored by the resident couple who have filled the communal areas with charming mismatched furniture, paintings by local Ibicenco painters, chandeliers and antiques to complement the beamed ceilings and flickering log fire. There are a total of 10 rooms and two suites; some are located in the main finca and have a balcony or hot tub, while others are in separate buildings and offer more space and beautiful light at sunset. They are all individually decorated, with touches of flowers, the occasional stripe and a touch of old-world charm.

Once the childhood home of British comedian and actor Terry Thomas, Can Talaias is now an unpretentious boutique hotel run by his youngest son Cushan and his wife Laetitia. The friendly, casual atmosphere hints at the history of an ordinary (albeit beautiful) family home, while the striking terrace is anything but. There are eight rooms in Can Talaias; the hero is undoubtedly the circular Terry Thomas suite on the ground floor. The Girasol suite is also airy and bright and suitable for families, and there are a number of other superior suites, some with terraces or a garden, and all with spacious, immaculate bathrooms. They feel comfortable and relaxed, with cream, yellow or terracotta walls and bedding that is fresh yet homely.

Located in the idyllic fishing cove of Portinatx, the quirky yet luxurious Los Enamorados leads onto a small but charming sandy cove, with sea views in one direction and the iconic striped lighthouse in the other.
