Europa League draw LIVE! West Ham and Liverpool learn opponents in the quarter-final

Europa League draw LIVE!

Liverpool and West Ham are about to discover their quarter-final opponents and their possible semi-final fates as the last English teams in Europe’s second tier leave. Both reached the last eight in style on Thursday, with the Reds finishing the job against Sparta Prague by winning 11-2 on aggregate, while the Hammers beat German side Freiburg 5-0 to overturn a 1-0 defeat in the first leg .

However, Brighton and Scottish Rangers were eliminated. Brighton failed to overturn a 4-0 first-leg defeat to Roma, while Rangers lost at home to Benfica after a thrilling 2-2 draw in Portugal last week, marking another frustrating exit in Europe.

Liverpool are the clear favorites to win the tournament and give Jurgen Klopp a parting gift, but Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen will have other ideas. AC Milan, Atalanta and Marseille also got through. Follow all the action LIVE on Standard Sport’s dedicated blog for the draw from 12pm!

Hamann: Man City and Real Madrid are ‘a lot better’

10:54 , Alex Young

Arsenal may be second favourites, but Didi Hamann has other ideas.

“If you want to win you have to beat City. It’s obviously easier to beat them in a one-off match than over two legs,” he told BoyleSports.

“In two legs I only see Real Madrid beating them. I don’t see anyone beating them down. City and Real Madrid are doing better than the rest of the other fourteen teams.

“If you avoid City and Real Madrid and you’re in the other half, then everyone has a chance. And City are beatable in one leg. I think Inter probably could or should have beaten them last year, but City are the favorites and justifiably.” So.”

Who could Arsenal face in the Champions League quarter-finals?

9:40 am , Jonathan Gorrie

Arsenal are in the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time in fourteen years and will probably face a tough test.

The Gunners made good work of their last-16 draw against Porto, losing the first leg 1-0 before going to a penalty shootout in the second leg, while heroics from goalkeeper David Raya sealed a place in the last eight.

This is Arsenal’s first season in the Champions League in seven years, and if they want to make the most of it, they need to beat the best on the continent.

From the quarter-final onwards, all rules go out the window, meaning Arsenal can take on the other remaining Premier League team left in Manchester City – the current owners.
