I’ve tried five John Lewis spring dresses and can see why they’re so popular

John Lewis dresses are among the best on the high street at the moment. (Yahoo Life UK)

With temperatures rising, it’s time to think about your new season wardrobe and I have a few style tips to share. Firstly, if you’re looking for a new midi or maxi dress to see you through the warmer months, whether that’s an easy-to-wear one for everyday wear, or one suitable for a special occasion, then the new range of dresses from John Lewis the perfect choice. definitely worth a look. Not only are they feminine, flattering, comfortable and breathable, but they are also surprisingly affordable.

Combining function and function with effortless style, I tried and tested five John Lewis dresses that caught my eye to find out why they’re flying off the shelves.

The high street store has a huge range of options, from flowy linen silhouettes to bright and bold prints. John Lewis is definitely one of my favorite retailers for dresses this season, mainly due to the fact that there are lots of pockets (which we all know is an added bonus!).

Unlike other clothing stores I prefer, such as Zara and River Island, I also find the sizing on John Lewis dresses to be a lot more accurate than most. I’m normally a 10 and these dresses, except for one, fit perfectly. Furthermore, their size range is very inclusive, going from 8 to 20.

And the good news is that you don’t have to have deep pockets to buy these dresses, as they all usually retail for under £100. However, John Lewis currently has 20% off all their dresses, so now is the ideal time to bag a new outfit and some savings.

Don’t wait too long if you want to get your hands on one, though, as they sell out quickly.

I received so many compliments when I wore this blue number to a party. (Yahoo Life UK)

In one word: WOW! This pleated midi dress is one of the most beautiful dresses I have worn in a long time and it made me feel very elegant.

It also looks and feels much more expensive than it is, due to the intricate pleating details that help add dimension to the dress. I wore it to a friend’s 50th birthday party and received so many compliments. The dusty blue color is beautiful and makes my blue eyes pop.

While I don’t often wear dresses without a defined shape, the way this material hangs and contours the curves of your body is actually very flattering. I also absolutely love the balloon sleeves, as I’m very aware of the bat wings on my upper arm, which are often visible in some clothes.

Plus, the dress’s sustainability factor is another huge bonus, as it’s made from 100% recycled polyester, which prevents single-use plastic from ending up in landfills.

Normally I’m not a fan of polka dot designs, but this one hits the spot. (Yahoo Life UK)

The fabric felt super light and comfortable and I loved the length of the dress. (Yahoo Life UK)

This midi dress with A-line and polka dot print should definitely not be missing in your spring and summer wardrobe. Normally I’m not a fan of polka dot designs, but this completely convinced me.

Linen is also not my usual choice when it comes to dress fabrics as I find it tends to wrinkle, but this dress was surprisingly low maintenance. Even when washed, it only needed a quick ironing.

The fabric felt super light and comfortable and I loved the length of the dress, which came to just above my ankles with a nice flare. Often dresses with no definition at the waist look like a bag on me, but this was completely flattering and a real winner in my eyes.

I wore it on a weekend walk, paired with trainers, and it felt so beautiful. I particularly liked the open neckline and the sleeves with buttoned cuff details, a lovely luxurious touch. I know this is a dress I will wear again and again when the weather really warms up.

The diagonal leaf print helped create an illusion of height and elongate my body. (Yahoo Life UK)

This sleeveless dress is an excellent transitional piece, worn alone or with a jacket over it. The pattern is incredibly flattering, with the diagonal design of the leaves creating an illusion of length that elongates my body. This clever design also distracts attention from areas such as the abdomen, which is my biggest problem area.

I love the versatility of this A-line dress with its all-over leaf print. I wore it with white sneakers as well as dressed up with heels and felt extremely comfortable in it.

Although it is described as a midi dress, I found that at 6 feet tall it actually hit my ankles. The cotton-blend material gave it a breathable feel and I especially liked the neckline, which lay flat and allowed the dress to hang perfectly on my body, cinching the waist slightly.

I loved the low V-neck and balloon sleeves, both of which gave a fresh and summery feel. (Yahoo Life UK)

This cotton A-line midi dress features a beautiful watercolor tropical print and is the perfect transitional dress for spring. I love the low V-neck and balloon sleeves, both of which give a fresh and summery feeling.

The only aspect I wasn’t too keen on was the self-tie belt, which I was aware of made my stomach look a little big from the side due to the flared skirt. My suggestion would be to opt for a regular belt instead for a more flattering fit.

The material overwhelmed me a little bit, so I would also suggest sizing down in this one. I’m a big fan of dresses with pockets and these are sewn on the sides. In terms of length, it looked more like a maxi dress to me. While I paired it with sandals, a brown pair of heeled boots would be the ideal footwear to take it to the next level all year round.

As a smaller, curvy woman, this type of smock dress usually doesn’t do anything for me. However, I surprisingly liked this dress because the fabric (55% linen, 45% viscose) is designed to have a fluid and flattering shape, so I liked the way it hung on my body.

For me the best part of the dress is the color as the smoky pine green is very different from the other shades I have in my wardrobe and made a nice change.

This dress fell just above my ankle and has slits on both sides, which gives it an airy feeling. Again, I normally pass up linen garments due to their wrinkle factor, but this material barely needed an iron after washing and the fabric was super comfortable.

And it has pockets! Large ones that gave the dress an extra cool look and allowed me to go hands-free and put my phone in my pocket when I went outside.

If you are slightly larger in the bust, the top of the dress may stretch, so I recommend sizing up. I wore a size 10 and have a 34C bust and it felt a tiny bit stretchy over the bra area, but nothing too obvious or uncomfortable. This is a very easy dress that is perfect for summer evenings or to throw over a swimsuit on holiday.
