Who should Manchester United sell in the big summer overhaul?

It could be a busy summer at Manchester United as the club is willing to listen to offers for almost its entire squad in the transfer market.

While Erik ten Hag’s future is also under scrutiny, the new backroom team, put together under the leadership of Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe, is ready to make big changes after taking control of all football operations.

Newly appointed technical director Jason Wilcox will be responsible for assessing the first-team squad, with a major overhaul planned after a disappointing season.

Manchester United sit sixth in the Premier League, currently 26 points behind leaders Arsenal, underlining the huge gap the new football team must close if the club is to compete for the biggest trophies again.

So, with big decisions to be made this summer, who should Manchester United sell and who should they keep?

André Onana

The goalkeeper has improved since a difficult start at Old Trafford, but United would anyway struggle to recoup the £47.2 million fee they paid to Inter 12 months ago. To hold.

Diogo Dalot

Undoubtedly United’s player of the season and someone you would want at the club if a major overhaul were to take place this summer. Also under contract until 2028. To hold.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

There would certainly be interest in the Premier League for a right-back who is among the best at one-on-one defending on his day, but he is not good enough for where United should be. To sell.

Harry Maguire

Although he has been one of their better players this season, United wanted to sell Maguire last summer and should make sure they do so this time around. The England centre-back is entering the final year of his contract and although United are nowhere near the £80m they paid for him, offers could come from mid-tier clubs and United must accept what they can get. To sell.

Rafael Varane

The World Cup winner’s contract expires this summer. There is an option for another year. United should only activate it if they are confident of selling the 31-year-old. Either way, his future is not at Old Trafford. To sell if you can, switch for free if not.

Victor Lindelof

Like Wan-Bissaka, the Sweden international is entering the final year of his contract and United have had more than enough time to realize he is not quite at the required level yet – although a decision would have to be made if Maguire and Varane had already left. To sell.

Lisandro Martinez

Brilliant last season, injured this season. The World Cup winner could be one of the few in United’s squad who would receive a large fee if sold. Yet he is also a favorite of Ten Hag. To hold.

Willy Kambwala

The 19-year-old has done well at times when stepping into the backline and could be an asset for the future. However, in the era of PSR, United could recoup a significant amount of profit if they find a suitor. Manchester City would sell. United should to sell.

Jonny Evans

The 36-year-old never expected to feature so prominently this season after being signed as veteran injury cover. United must ensure they are not in the same position of having to extend contact with the veteran. Free transfer.

Luke Shaw

Without the injury record, United could certainly convince an ambitious mid-tier Premier League club to make a bid for the England international, although there would certainly be no resale value if they did. To hold.

Tyrell Malacia

One of Ten Hag’s first acquisitions hardly played this season due to an injury. The 24-year-old left back may first have to be loaned out to generate some interest. Lend.

Casemiro

Brilliant last season, this season a shadow of its former self. That four-year contract is looking more mindless with every game. United should hope the five-time Champions League winner attracts interest from Saudi Arabia. To sell.

Sofyan Amrabat

United have an option to buy the Moroccan following his loan from Fiorentina. While he is clearly not the same player who played in the World Cup, they should not do that under any circumstances. Loan expires.

Kobbie Mainoo

United are a breakout star this season and should do everything they can to keep the 19-year-old and build their new team around him. To hold.

Scott McTominay

His late goals have often saved United, but the club wanted to sell last summer and would need to cash in before he enters the final year of his contract. There should be a lot of interest from Premier League clubs. To sell.

Christian Eriksen

The Dane has been a good servant for United over the past two seasons but is now past his prime. There is an argument that he is worth keeping for another year because the transfer offers would be so low, but United should sell if they can. To sell.

Bruno Fernandes

A difficult one. Fernandes is clearly United’s best player and without him they would be in an even worse position. But he would also receive the highest transfer fee of the squad if another European powerhouse were interested. Do you really want to sell your captain during a renovation? To hold.

Mason Mountain

His first year at Old Trafford was a disaster, and United would not get anywhere near the £55 million they paid for the England international if sold. United may have to hope that Mount returns to the form that made him a regular in England and one of the most exciting young players in Europe. To hold.

Marcus Rashford

United do not want to sell Rashford, who has struggled with his form this season during a difficult year off the field. There is an argument that both parties could benefit from a divorce, especially if United are offered a large fee from Europe or elsewhere. Certainly, Rashford’s value isn’t as high as it was last year after a 30-goal campaign. Maybe you stay and hope he finds form again. To holdunless a huge offer comes along and Rashford wants to go.

Alejandro Garnacho

The 19-year-old is a future star who has four years left on his contract. As with Mainoo, United should want to build around him. To hold.

Anthony

The Brazilian’s signing for £86 million was a disaster, and his future could be linked to that of Ten Hag. United would be lucky if they get half of what they paid Ajax two years ago, which in itself could be bad news for PSR. Ten Hag has shown confidence in the winger, but it is difficult to see how any other manager would do that if the Dutchman is replaced this summer. To sell

Jadon Sancho

Another one whose future will be tied to Ten Hag’s. The former England international will not play for Ten Hag again unless he apologizes for the criticism leveled against him on social media. Although both sides were at a stalemate, Sancho shone on his return to Borussia Dortmund, who may want to sign him permanently this summer. Sancho can still be an asset for United, just not under Ten Hag, it seems. To sellunless Ten Hag is fired.

Mason Greenwood

Sir Jim Ratcliffe appeared to leave the door open for Greenwood, who was charged with attempted rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and controlling and coercive behavior, to return this summer but United now want to cut ties completely. The 22-year-old has been on loan at Getafe this season and a decision to reintegrate Greenwood into the squad would almost certainly lead to a backlash that extends beyond United’s support. To sell.

Amad Diallo

His win against Liverpool was United’s highlight of the season, but the club may be looking to cash in as he enters the final year of his contract. To sell.

Rasmus Hojlund

Scoring goals in February and March provided plenty of encouragement that the 21-year-old can play a big role in United’s future, although there are still a few questions ahead of his second season. To hold.

Anthony Martialis

An unfortunate symbol of modern Manchester United. The Frenchman’s contract expires this summer and the club has no plans for a one-year extension. The 28-year-old has made just seven starts this season and has been sidelined since December. Free transfer.
